1960年的夏天，社會學家埃德加·莫蘭和讓·魯什對巴黎年輕人的日常生活進行調查，瞭解他們對幸福的理解。這部論述電影連續幾個月跟蹤調查的進行，也記錄了主人公們的變化。調查中被採訪的人最後在影片第一次放映的時候聚集在一起觀看進行討論，有人的贊同，有的人駁斥。兩位導演通過這部真實電影，經歷了既極具挑戰又充滿樂趣的體驗。
